Boots, Bowling Shoes, Beans and Baking: How We Spent a Rainy Day

Today's blog post is brought to you by the letter B.
We woke up to rain.
That put a damper on our usual Tuesday morning hike.
We'll hike in mud, but actual rain is a bit much for us at this point.
(we don't even have waterproof rain jackets. it's so cal after all--not Seattle)
Or at least for Baby D and I.
So we came up with a plan, you guessed it, B.
We dug the rain Boots out of the garage.

Then we went Bowling.

They have only been bowling once.
Lilly had just turned 2--it was a while ago.

And they have been wanting to go back every since.

They were thrilled.

James got a strike and a few spares.

William said, "bowling might be my sport."

Lilly had her own technique for getting the ball down the lane.
Slooooow and steady.

And don't you just love a girl pink pants with dirty knees and bowling shoes?
Could she be any cuter, my little tomboy?

Bowling was an absolute Blast.
We can't wait for the next rainy day.

It stopped raining by the time we got home, but the air felt crisp.
(for those of us in  so cal, anything in the 60s is "crisp")
So I put on a pot of our favorite Beans.
And then there was Baking of our favorite pumpkin Bread.
Our first rainy day of the season was a complete success.
In the old days, I loved to spend a rainy day on the couch, drinking hot tea and reading a book.
Bliss.
But these days that is no longer a viable option.
While I still love a good day at home, and schedule at least 1 a week, a day spent only indoors at home is not so good.
So this Bowling thing was a really good option.
It's got me thinking about more rainy days to come and how we'll beat cabin fever.
I'm looking for ideas.
How do you like to spend rainy days?
Do tell.
Love from,
Greta

I am so glad you made the best of the rainy day. We love bowling with the boys. Baking pumpkin bread is on our list today.

Well, over here we get A LOT of rainy days. Weeks. Months (well, maybe not quite). So we do have rain boots, pants and jackets for the kids - the good, breathable ones, not those plastic ones. They love jumping puddles.

We also have trips to museums planned, indoor playgrounds and our weekly trip to the library.

At some point we'll hopefully get snow instead of rain...

Too fun. Too relaxing. You've got the good life, friend. (Me too!)

I'm thinking of you very pregnant on your couch, wore out with worries about what isn't getting done. Wonders about how it will all turn out. Discomforts galore.

Been there. Done that. But it turned out pretty good, didn't it? We can so trust God. How awesome is hindsight, and how good is our God to us! (And next time I am feeling the load of the world... I am going to do more resting and trusting. I will learn this!)

Take care, sweet Greta. Cherish and enjoy the days. Embrace each one, one at a time.
