Ode to Ginger

Every family should have a Ginger. I don't know what we would do without her. Ginger is how we go on dates, without kids.  Ginger brings her face painting kit, or her toy, ride-on train to birthday parties.  And then she stays and helps. Ginger can get William to stay in his bed when I can't.  Ginger gives rides on the skateboard down the hill, going really fast.  Ginger has lots of energy.  Ginger plays chase and hide and seek and knows how to play with boys.  Ginger makes up cool snacks, like salami wraps.  Ginger  knows how to sail.  She takes James out on her sailboat.  Ginger is our babysitter and we love her.

Today we left Lilly for the first time and went on a date.  It was so nice to linger over breakfast without anyone attached to me, eating their own breakfast.  When I asked Ginger how she felt about having all 3 of them she was all for it.  Of course she was.  She's Ginger.  After we'd been gone a few hours, I began to feel a little babysick.  "Aaron, you haven't even watched the 3 of them by yourself for this long!" I exclaimed, trying to sound unpanicky while still convey the importance of us getting home STAT.

Of course everyone was fine.  And not only did Ginger handle the baby and 2 busy boys, she drew tattoos, made William and herself into a kitty cat and helped James make a bat costume. Can I say it again?  We love Ginger.

I would have loved to have a Ginger in my life as a mother of young children. Alas, I did not. However you had someone as dear and fun. His name was dad. He did not do crafts or face painting, but he was full of energy and I can still see you and your brother Ben running down the stairs to the living room, hoping to reach the couch, safe base, before your dad. Such simple fun, but you loved it.

Mom, yeah, I can't believe you let us jump on the couch like that. It seems like we always played that at night, and maybe you were just too tired by that point to care what we were doing. Where were you when we were doing that, anyway. See how it is to be a mom--the dad gets all the glory and no one even remembers what the mom was doing. Probably cleaning bathrooms or something.
Ginger, I am glad I made your day. You make mine all the time. It's good we can help each other out like that. You ARE a part of our family and we all love you so much. Lilly will need a big sister and you are it, girl! Please don't get too busy for babysitting for a loooooong time.

I am amazed at her fun skils and fresh ideas! Well done Gonger! Keep it up!

Yes, this is much better than a Myspace page! I hope it is OK that I put you up here. I didn't get our permission. If you charge for the picture being posted, then you can just add it to the next time you babysit.
