Meet Sally

That's Sally. Sally cat the alley cat.
She adopted us this week.
Aaron walked into our living room and there she was. Just sitting there like she'd been there every day of her life. We moved her outside where she was promptly smothered with attention by 3 very excited little people.

She seemed hungry, so I gave in and fed her some tuna, and......I think she's ours now.
Every one loves her.
Here she is sitting on our picnic table and cleaning herself. And that is why I am not a huge fan of cats. They just don't respect the food preparation or presentation areas.

But when a cat can inspire this kind of happiness, I am willing to overlook a few things.

Have I mentioned that they love her?

It took a whole day to decide on her name. James voted for Sally right away (inspired by the movie Cars, which he saw for the first time recently and fell in love with) William voted for Eva, and they both like Mrs. Marlin. (Can you tell I was sick last week and there was some movie viewing going on?) Then, when she was climbing the avocado tree, they decided she was like a panther and thought that would be a good name.
Yesterday James informed me that he and William agreed on Sally.

That first day they wanted to build her a house, make her a bed and a climbing structure. James wanted to start teaching her numbers and letters. When I asked him how he would know if she knew them, given that cats can't talk, he said, "it's easy Mommy. I will teach her sign language. When it's 1, she'll hold up 1 paw and when it is 2, she'll hold up 2 paws."

Oh. Why didn't I think of that?

The day was spent inspecting her, watching her, petting her and loving her up. Thankfully she doesn't seem to mind one bit. Even Lilly doesn't bother her with those extra strong love pats.

Last night the 3 boys slept on the back porch to beat the heat. James woke up with Sally cuddled up next to him. He was beside himself.
I, however, am washing all the blankets. She hasn't acted like she has fleas, but you can never be too careful. I'm just saying.

All in all, I like her. Like James said, "Isn't it exciting, we have our first pet."

I will be taking a break from blogging this long weekend. I have a few projects I am hoping to get done. Hopefully I'll be back on Tuesday with pictures! Hope you find a way to stay cool this weekend while I'm sweating over my paintbrush.
