Wonder

On Superbowl Sunday we took the kids to Sea World. Superbowl Sunday is a great day to go to a theme park. Most of the country is watching commercials and a little football, so that means most of the country isn't with you at the theme park. We had a great time.

By far, my favorite part of Sea World is seeing Shamu. When James was about a year and a half old, we took him to Sea World. I hadn't seen the Shamu show in many years, and seeing it again so awed me that I cried. (I was also 7 months pregnant) It really is amazing to see this gigantic animal, a KILLER whale, flying through the air, jumping, twisting, splashing and swimming with people. It is pretty astonishing and beautiful.

Since our last visit, they have remodeled Shamu's tank, and now you can stand right next to the glass as he swims past you. We actually got to watch 2 Shamus (they are all named Shamu, right?) swimming around. At first, they were swimming on the other side of the tank, but after a bit, they began to swim right past us. It is amazing to see them so close. You can look them in the eye, see the markings on their skin, and marvel how anything so big can swim so gracefully. I could have stayed there all day.

The boys, too, couldn't get enough. For 2 little boys who are in constant motion, they stayed still in front of Shamu for a long time. As we watched the orca whales swim, we talked about how deep they could dive, and how long they could hold their breath. We talked about how God designed them to be the best swimmers, to go fast and be very strong. I am so thankful that we have the chance to see the amazing creatures God created up close. It gives us another perspective of His greatness and His creativity. Those quiet moments watching Shamu were the best part of the day.

"For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities--His eternal power and divine nature--have been clearly seen, being understood from what He has made, so that men are without excuse."
Romans 1:20
